BREAKING: Students Feared Dead While Traveling Home For Hunger Protest Break
In a tragic incident, three students from Cross River State University lost their lives in an auto crash on Tuesday while traveling home following the institution’s two-week closure.
The university had shut down to prevent student participation in a hardship protest scheduled for August 1.
The accident occurred near Ikom along the Calabar–Ikom highway as the students were en route to Ogoja in the northern part of the state.
Eyewitness Ndoma Akunobor, who was also on the bus, reported that the deceased students were from the departments of Microbiology, Plant Science, and Biotechnology. Their names had not been confirmed at the time of this report.
The university management had ordered the closure from July 30 to August 12 in anticipation of the nationwide protest. This decision, aimed at ensuring the safety and security of the students, unfortunately led to this heartbreaking loss.
