We’ll Arrest Youths Who Eat In Public During Ramadan, Kano Islamic Police, Hisbah Vows
Following concerns arising from the just-concluded governorship and State Assembly elections, the Kano State Islamic police or Hisbah Board has deployed personnel to mosques to ensure the safety of lives and property during the holy month of Ramadan.
The board in a statement issued on Thursday by its spokesman, Ibrahim Lawan, warned that those who engage in societal vices during the sacred month will be punished and no one would be spared.
According to the statement, Lawan said clothing, food items, grains, water, and cash, among other things, would be given to those in need during the month of Ramadan, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
He quoted the commander-general of the board, Harun Ibn-Sina, as saying, “Hisbah corps will visit mosques during Iftar, Tarawih, and Tahajjud prayers to protect worshippers and their property from unpatriotic elements. Those who engage in societal vices during this sacred month will be dealt with.
“Some of the youths who eat in public during the fasting period will not be spared either.”
Mr Ibn-Sina called on the general public to assist orphans and the needy in a bid to give succour to their suffering.
He said feeding others during the Holy Month was rewarding as Allah (SWT) “opens the doors of paradise, as such, there was the need to multiply good deeds to gain Allah’s favour”.
The Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Mohammed Abubakar III, in a broadcast on Wednesday night, announced the start of fasting on Thursday.
