Kano Bans Traders, Others From Listening To Davido’s Songs
The announcer of the ban said to have been authorised by the leader of the market, Hassan Abubakar Bawasa, warned that any defaulter would be sanctioned decisively.
Muslim faithful at Farm Centre GSM Market in Kano State, Northeast Nigeria have been banned from pasting pictures and playing or listening to the songs of music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
The announcer of the ban said to have been authorised by the leader of the market, Hassan Abubakar Bawasa, warned that any defaulter would be sanctioned decisively.
He added that the ban was as a result of Davido’s “blasphemous act against the religion of Allah.”
“Anybody who knows someone who pasted Davido’s picture in his shop, he should quickly remove and burn it because of his blasphemous act against the religion of Allah.
“Playing Davido’s music, video or sharing it is prohibited in Kano phone centres. Anybody found listening to his song will be sanctioned decisively. I convey you this message from Hassan Bawasa,” the announcer who went round what is suspected to Farm Centre GSM Market in the state with a megaphone said in Hausa.
Bawasa is the Chairman of Farm Centre GSM Market in Kano.
Naija News House had reported that Davido came under fire as Muslims including Bashir Ahmad, the former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari and a popular Nollywood actor, Ali Nuhu, attacked him for posting a video trailer of his signee, Logo Olori’s latest music video, ‘Jaye Lo’ which featured men dressed as praying Muslims, dancing in front of a mosque.
Davido posted the 45-second long video clip of Logos Olori’s new song last week to promote the song ahead of its official release.
Though many of Davido’s fans rose to his defence, many Muslims considered the video offensive to their religion and demanded that it should be taken down.
They also asked Davido to apologise to the Muslim community.
Yielding to the pressure, SaharaReporters’ check on Davido’s social media pages including Twitter and Instagram some days later showed that he had deleted the video.
