Top Nigerian Lawmaker Locks Out Staff For Lateness
The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, on Wednesday, locked out several staff members of the assembly for arriving late to work.
The action, aimed at addressing the staff’s lack of punctuality, was taken after the Speaker expressed dissatisfaction with their attitude toward work.
Jatau, who arrived at the office as early as 8:30 am, conducted an inspection of the offices to assess staff attendance and punctuality.
He expressed his displeasure with the number of employees who had not resumed work within the official hours.
Speaking to journalists after the inspection, the Speaker stated that his administration would not tolerate indiscipline or any actions that could hinder the smooth operation of the legislative institution.
“Any organization that is not disciplined will not move forward. Staff must discipline themselves or we will discipline them,” Jatau warned.
He added that Governor Abdullahi Sule has been making efforts to improve the welfare of state workers, and the assembly under his leadership would continue to prioritize staff welfare, but would not overlook issues of indiscipline.
“I have instructed the Staff Officer to take action against any staff who is not punctual or not performing their duties as required,” Jatau said.
The Speaker reassured staff of his commitment to their welfare but reiterated the need for them to fulfill their responsibilities effectively.
