Lekki Raid: EFCC Indicts 19 Suspects After Arresting 21 in Cybercrime Operation

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the indictment of 19 suspects following a raid on Applewood Estate, Orchid Road, Lekki, Lagos State, over alleged cybercrime activities.
The suspects were among 21 individuals arrested during a sting operation conducted by operatives of the Commission’s Lagos Directorate 1 at about 5:00 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2026.

The EFCC said the operation targeted individuals suspected of defrauding unsuspecting victims through gift cards, cryptocurrencies and international money transfers, allegedly using impersonation to perpetrate the offences.
Five exotic cars were also seized during the operation.

According to the Commission, the raid was preceded by surveillance and reconnaissance aimed at monitoring the activities of the suspected fraudsters before their arrest.
The EFCC further explained that a young woman who allegedly attempted to alert the suspects by making telephone calls during the operation was held temporarily, and her phone was confiscated.
However, the Commission said the phone was returned to her after the operation was concluded.
Following preliminary investigations, 19 suspects were found to be implicated in the alleged offences, while two others were released.

The Commission stated that the 19 suspects would be arraigned in court immediately.
The EFCC, while defending the conduct of the operation, insisted that its personnel acted professionally and that no harassment, intimidation or unlawful arrest was recorded.
It also called on members of the public to support its campaign against financial crimes and condemn activities that bring Nigeria into disrepute.
The Commission reiterated its readiness to engage in constructive discussions with well-meaning Nigerians but warned against attempts by blackmailers and alarmists to frustrate its operations.

The EFCC said it would continue to deploy operational strategies to combat economic and financial crimes and other acts of corruption
