Drama As NDLEA Officials ‘Raid Wrong Home, Seize Phones, Other Gadgets; Demand N500,000 For Release’
Officials from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) raided a residence and arrested a man (name withheld) without presenting any apparent charges.
The officers, reportedly from Kasholori, Ikorodu, were said to have apprehended the man while he was simply charging his phone inside his home.
Speaking on Wednesday, the victim stated that the officers arrested him while he was charging his phone inside his house.
According to him, it was only through the intervention of the head of the Community Development Association (CDA) that he was released.
“They took my phones, laptops, chargers, and other gadgets,” he said.
The victim added, “It was the CDA that directly informed them that they had raided the wrong house and that no one there was involved in any illegal activities.
“After my brother went to the CDA to make a complaint, the officers claimed they did not realise it was our house they had raided and apologised. They then spoke with the CDA, which facilitated my release.”
The victim also revealed that the NDLEA officials initially demanded N2 million for the return of his possessions and later reduced the amount to N500,000.
“I have no idea where I am supposed to get that kind of money,” he said.
When contacted the spokesperson for the NDLEA, Mr Femi Babafemi, he referred our correspondent to the Lagos State Commander of the agency, CN Abubakar Liman Wali, who promised to investigate the matter.
“Please tell me the unit from which the officers came. I promise to investigate the matter myself. I would also appreciate it if you could provide me with the contact information of the suspect,” he said. “We have officers who head each zone, and I won’t allow any officers to put me in trouble.”
