Nigeria is a country blessed with different tribes, so with different belief and faith. In Islam, muslims are allowed to marry more than one wife. It is not mandatory to marry wife you cannot cater for. Here are the four reasons why muslims polygamy in nature added to Nigeria poverty.
1. Health challenges : In Nigeria situation, we do not need men to marry more than one wife.The country is in a great mess but many go on marrying wife they cannot cater for. With poverty rate in the country, a wife is enough for a man. Health issue is a major concern. The children will not have adequate care.
2. High cost of Education: Education is costly. It is not easy for poor people to send their children to schools. Primary and secondary education may be free in some state but what of tertiary education. Even so called free education in primary and secondary is not totally free. Muslims need to train their wards and enlighten their Ummah. To afford western education, marry a wife.

3. Overpopulation : Nigeria population is increasing day in day out, we are giving birth. With less resoures, there is over population due to polygamy. Muslims marry more than wife and they increase the population. One need to check his income before marrying a wife let alone two,three, four wives. In fact, low earners married more than a wife in Nigeria. Look around

4. High Rate Of Crime and social vices. : When a child is given birth, the parents have responsiblities to play. He needs proper education or training to be useful to the society. Their polygamy increases the rate of crimes and social vices.

I am not against polyamous but men need to check their pocket before marrying another wife. Quran and Prophet have warned muslims that they should go on marrying another if they will be just and have the means.
