Real reason why the North does not want to pull out of Nigeria. The clamor for disintegration of Nigeria has intensified in recent times.
This could be due to the dwindling economy of the country and the allegations that some citizens of Nigeria are being marginalized.
However, the security issues facing the Giant of Africa have become increasingly worrisome.
Consequently, the agitation for self-determination championed by the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) has extended to the people of Southwestern Nigeria (the agitators of Oduduwa Republic).

Though the Federal Government of Nigeria has refused to listen to the demands of the agitators, their numbers in the South keep increasing as people are being sensitized on the need for self-determination as orchestrated by the agitators of Oduduwa Republic.
The biggest consideration amidst these agitations is the survival tendency of different regions of the country if the country splits. How would the regions fare if they become economically independent?
A look into the internally generated revenue (IGR) of each state in Nigeria and the geopolitical zones would take us close to this answer. Lagos State is undoubtedly the economic hub of Nigeria.
According to State IGR reports released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the Lagos tops the list of States Revenue Generation in 2020 with N418. 99 billion accounting for 32.04% of the entire states revenue of N1.31 trillion. Rivers, FCT, Delta, Kaduna, Ogun, Oyo, Kano, Akwa Ibom and Anambra join Lagos the top 10.
However, the consideration of internally generated revenue by geopolitical zones reveals that South West is at the top with North East at the bottom.
It appears that if the country ever disintegrates, the Southern states would thrive better financially than most Northern states.

Therefore, when most Nigerians claim that the northern region is economically parasitic, they may not be entirely wrong as most Northern states depend heavily on federal allocations.
Going with this statistics, it becomes clearer why the northern region has refused to agitate for disintegration, or at least agree to restructuring.
Self-determination may not be at the best interest of most Northern states especially those of the North East.
