The news now is that a combined police and military team have intercepted a large cache of arms and ammunition from the convoy of Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe, member of the House of Representatives representing Anambra East and West.
According to a source familiar with the operation, the team followed the House of Representatives member’s convoy until it came to a halt on the outskirts of Nteje in Anambra State’s Oyi Local Government Area.
According to reports, Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe’s security detail prepared for a gunfight at first, but when it became clear that the operatives were a security task force, they stood down, allowing the special task force to inspect the entire convoy’s vehicles.
Several vehicles in the convoy were found to contain 52 Ak-47 rifles, 119 pump actions, and thousands of rounds of live ammunition.
However, Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe’s security detail insisted that he would not be detained, resulting in a standoff.

Hon. Obidigwe, who refused to exit his bullet-proof vehicle, is said to have contacted Gov. Willie Obiano, and the convoy was eventually escorted back to Zone 13 Police Headquarters in Ukpo to avoid unnecessary casualties.
Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe’s whereabouts is unknown. Governor Willie Obiano, on the other hand, was making frantic phone calls to ensure that the situation did not escalate. Gov. Willie Obiano, according to a security source, was willing to go to any length to keep the incident from making the news.
This incident occurs just two weeks before Anambra State’s governorship election, at a time when the state is experiencing increased insecurity. Some political actors have previously been suspected of being behind the state’s insecurity.
Indeed, during a recent visit to President Muhammadu Buhari to discuss plans to declare a state of emergency in Anambra, Gov. Willie Obiano stated that politicians are to blame for the state’s killings, with many of those responsible hailing from outside the state.
