Go And Find Work At A Construction Company – Rep Jimbo Disowns Student Who Asked For School Fees Assistance
The Honourable member representing Abak, Etim Ekpo, and Ika federal Constituency has disowned a student who requested school fee assistance on social media, three days before the closing date.
While responding to questions from journalists about why he suggested the student seek work at a construction site to earn money for school fees, Jimbo explained that it was inappropriate for the student to solicit for school fees on social media.
He asserted that the student was not genuinely in need of school fees but rather looking for urgent money for other purposes. Jimbo suggested that the construction company now pays N5000 a day, making it a viable option for earning money quickly.
Furthermore, Jimbo clarified that the student in question is not from his constituency but from Ikono.
An investigation revealed that Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong and the Ikono LGA chairman had already provided the student with the money for school fees.
Jimbo questioned why the student did not publicly acknowledge this assistance on social media.
Jimbo mentioned that if the student had asked for guidance on which construction site to work at, he would have directed him to a company that the Governor, Umo Eno, had contracted in Abak.
Jimbo emphasized that he did not intend to harm the student but was sharing advice based on his own experiences.
Jimbo recounted his own story of working at construction sites as a university freshman to earn money before the school term began.
He cited specific locations where he worked and shared that he was able to buy his first brand-new car and get married while still an undergraduate.
He expressed frustration at those who called him to apologize, insisting that there was no reason for him to apologize and that people should understand the meaning of an apology.
Naija News House had previously reported how Jimbo advised the student to work as a laborer at a construction site to earn his school fees.
Hon. Jimbo also listed his achievements in one year
ACHIEVEMENTS IN ONE YEAR
Speaking on his achievement in one year as a member of the green chamber, Jimbo said he sponsored two bills: one proposing the establisment of a technology transfer commission to facilitate the sharing of technology for local production, and the second seeking to establish a federal college of science and technology in Akwa Ibom.
The lawmaker said both bills have scaled through first readings.
The legislator said he so moved a motion to address the gaps in pension laws to ensure that retirees receive a larger portion of their savings.
“We saw the gap that existed in the 2014 Pension Act. We call the action of the federal government to see how to bridge the gap” he said.
“The gap: Upon retirement, 24 percent of your savings that you have saved for 20 to 30 years is given to you and 75 percent is kept with pension fund managers
“This money is kept and they would recycle this money with all kinds of investment without the recourse to the original owners of the money.
“It’s wrong. Give these guys their money. Let them use it for whatever purpose.
“The other day federal retried directors were here in this office. As retired directors, some served in finance, and some in top MDAs. They are receiving N40,000 a month, while some get N35,000
“What message does that signal to those who are currently directors? It is to tell them that now that you have the opportunity, steal as much as you want because this nation will never take care of you upon retirement.”
Jimbo said he has also implemented several projects in his constituency such as medical outreach programmes, ICT training for youths, and providing laptops for empowerment.
Jimbo said youths should be allowed to lead, noting that if the younger generation were given the chance to showcase their leadership abilities, Nigeria would not be in its current state.
