$190,324 Fraud: Court Remands Sierra Leonean in Lagos Correctional Centre

A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja has ordered the remand of a Sierra Leonean, Favour Foday Kamara, at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre over an alleged $190,324 fraud.
Kamara was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, before Justice O. A. Okunuga on a two-count charge bordering on alleged stealing and fraudulent conversion.
The case arose from a petition by Henrietta Vandi, a 70-year-old Sierra Leonean based in the United States, who accused the defendant of allegedly converting funds she provided for a property investment in Lagos.
According to the EFCC, Vandi said she met Kamara during a visit to the Synagogue Church of All Nations between 2019 and 2020. She alleged that he later encouraged her to invest in Nigeria.
The commission disclosed that the petitioner allegedly transferred money through Ria, Western Union, MoneyGram and cash deposits into Kamara’s Access Bank account to facilitate the purchase and renovation of a property in the Alimosho area of Lagos.
The property is located at 30 Gbenga Ogunleye/Atobatele Street, Cele Bus Stop, Araromi, Alimosho.
The EFCC alleged that investigations revealed that the property was acquired in the defendant’s name, adding that he allegedly lives there and collects rent from tenants.
The commission subsequently charged Kamara with allegedly converting $190,324 belonging to Vandi to his personal use between August 2021 and February 2025.
One of the charges accused him of dishonestly converting the money, described in the charge as the petitioner’s property, contrary to Sections 278(1)(b) and 285(9) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Kamara, however, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him in court.
Following the plea, EFCC prosecution counsel, Nnaemeka Omewa, asked the court to fix a date for trial and order the defendant’s remand in a correctional facility.
Justice Okunuga granted the request and ordered that Kamara be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
The court adjourned the matter until October 29, 2026, for further proceedings.
The defendant remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
