BREAKING: Many Feared Killed As Troops Exchange Gunfire With Terrorists
Troops from 1 Brigade and Sector 1 Joint Task Force operating in the North West under Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) have killed two bandits in the Unguwar Sarkin Musulmi area of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Zamfara State.
The operation, which was part of the ongoing Operation Sahel Sanity II, was confirmed in a statement by Lt. Suleiman Omale of OPHD on Saturday.
Lt. Omale said the troops responded to credible intelligence regarding the presence of violent extremists in the area. Upon arrival, they engaged the militants in a gunfight, which resulted in the killing of two of the extremists, while the remaining bandits fled.
Quoting Omale, “On 16th August 2024, the troops neutralised the bandits during a fierce encounter in Unguwar Sarkin Musulmi area of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.”
He further noted that during a subsequent mop-up operation, the troops recovered an operational motorcycle used by the extremists.
According to him, the area has since been secured, with troops from Sector 1 conducting confidence-building patrols to ensure the continued safety of the community.
