Nigerian Students Stranded As UK Universities Deregister Them Over New Law
Universities in the United Kingdom (UK) have reportedly deregistered some foreign students including Nigerians studying in their institutions.
They are also advised to leave the country by their respective institutions, according to Benjamin Kuti, the president of the Nigerians in UK Community (NIUK) in a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
Kuti, fondly known as Oluomo took to his X account on Saturday to announce the unfortunate development.
He wrote: “So many universities have deregistered students in the UK and advised to leave the country.”
Confirming the ugly development, @kelvinstrangee wrote while reacting to Oluomo’s tweet, wrote “Oluomo this is the case for my cousin in Portsmouth. Is there any Visa they can be on for now till he gets sponsorship? He certainly doesn’t want to go back to Nigeria.”

@adexmoveec however, in his reaction asked: “When Does that mean they can’t work part time while studying?”

Oluko while responding to some reactions wrote: “Sure they are eligible to work part time while studying, provided they’re still enrolled in the school, cos if they are not enrolled their right to work will be cancelled which will make them ineligible to work.

For @MBlacktrib3, he warned Nigerians traveling outside the country to get their acts rights before embarking on such journey.
He wrote: “Travelling abroad cost money. Don’t allow anyone lie to you. Unless you receive a fully funded scholarship covering your tuition, accommodation and feeding, you need to have money. Plan your finances thoroughly before embarking on your Japa journey to avoid sad stories.”
