Information reaching Naija News House says that FRSC Warns Nigerians over Vehicles Number
The Federal Road Safety Corps says it will clamp down on vehicles without number plates in Cross River State.
The Cross River State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Elizabeth Akinlade, disclosed this on Tuesday while on a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Cross State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Victor Udu, in Calabar.
While responding to a question, she said, “We are addressing the issue of vehicles without number plates. Our officers will also look out for vehicles with one number plate,” as they pose security risk, adding that everything is being done to prevent road crashes.
“She said “One of our mandate is to reduce road crashes by 15 per cent. In this part of the world, you have to force people to stay alive. For people to stay safe, they have to be educated.”
She said enlightenment is carried out regularly through the media, adding that road safety is everyone’s business.
“We do a lot of advocacy. When that fails, we go into subtle enforcement and then full enforcement when subtle enforcement also fails.
“We train drivers on defensive driving, how to drive to ensure they are safe,” she said, lamenting that a lot of people are losing their lives due to failure to obey traffic rules and regulations.
The Sector Commander advised vehicle owners not to sell their vehicles with the number plates because information about the original owner of the vehicle are in Road Safety Corps’ data bank and if the vehicle is used for crime, the original owner could be in trouble.
She called for partnership with the media, saying “Without you, a lot of people won’t have the opportunity to be acquainted with what is going on.”
