Viral Video: NHRC Vows Action Against Staff If Uyo Office Misconduct Is Established

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has pledged to take appropriate administrative action against any personnel found culpable following allegations of unprofessional conduct at its Akwa Ibom State office in Uyo.

The Commission’s reaction followed the circulation of a video on social media purportedly showing an incident involving personnel at the office.
Expressing serious concern over the allegations, the NHRC maintained that its staff must uphold the highest standards of professionalism when attending to members of the public.
The Commission stressed that no level of provocation should justify the improper treatment of a complainant, noting that respect for human rights must be reflected in every interaction with individuals seeking assistance.
To establish what transpired, the Executive Secretary, Chief Tony Ojukwu, OFR, SAN, has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident.
The Commission assured the public that any infraction uncovered during the investigation would attract appropriate administrative action in accordance with extant rules.
Reaffirming its commitment to effective service delivery, the NHRC said it remains dedicated to ensuring that its services are accessible, free, timely and accountable.
It further encouraged members of the public to report any difficulties encountered while seeking assistance at its offices by calling its toll-free line on 6472.
The Commission’s response underscores its position that personnel must maintain professional conduct and treat all complainants with dignity and respect.
