Why we are ready to legalize the use of weed In Nigeria. Information has it that, the House of Representatives is about to legalize the utilization of Indian Hemp within the country for economic benefit.
Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, a spokesperson of the House of Representatives, said this while speaking to newsmen at a conference on the benefits and opportunities of Cannabis in Akure, Ondo state capital.
In the conference, while speaking to newsmen, he said the House of Representatives will organize a two-day stakeholders meeting on the benefits of the weed.
He added that countries in Africa like South Africa are making huge sum of revenue from cannabis which they usually export to other countries.
In his words, he said The country has been described as a country that depends on oil while is not enriched with much oil.
Adding that the coronavirus showed the weakness of Nigerian when oil price dropped.
He added saying that agriculture is the major strength of the country and the export of weed will provide a good prospects.
He also disclosed the industrial hemp is a good part of Cannabis plant that is for industrial use.
“According to verified marketing research, the worldwide Industrial Hemp Market was valued at USD 5 Billion in 2019 and is projected to succeed in USD 36 Billion by 2026.”
“Base on consultancy firm Prohibition Partners it says that by 2023, the worth of Africa’s legal cannabis market might be worth over USD 7.1 billion.”
“Nigerians must understand that we aren’t alone during this race to determine a lucrative medical and industrial hemp economy.
Why We Are Ready
Based on recommendations by the planet Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations (UN) voted to get rid of Cannabis from schedule IV of the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, and made it as a medicinal and therapeutic, on December 2, 2020.”

No doubt the export of cannabis will boast the economy of Nigeria just as it is boasting the economy of many countries in Africa.
