2027: Ireti Kingibe Raises Alarm Over Alleged 25% Tax on Nigerians If Tinubu Return

Senator Ireti Kingibe has raised the alarm over what she described as a potentially heavy tax burden for Nigerians in 2027, alleging that the implementation of a tax policy could increase the financial pressure on citizens.
The senator made the statement in a recent video while speaking to voters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Kingibe claimed that the National Assembly had already passed a tax law that many Nigerians were yet to understand, adding that its implementation was allegedly being postponed until after the 2027 general election.
“They passed the policy, but fear won’t let them implement it until after the elections,” she said.
She further claimed that Nigerians could be required to pay 25 per cent of their earnings as tax, a development that could generate concerns among individuals and households already struggling with rising living costs.
The senator’s remarks have brought renewed attention to the possible implications of tax policies and the timing of their implementation ahead of the next general election.
However, the claim that every Nigerian would pay 25 per cent of their earnings in taxes has not been established by the statement alone. The actual tax obligations of individuals would depend on the specific provisions of the relevant law and the income categories covered.
