The convention is expected to convene delegates from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory for key activities, including policy deliberations, leadership elections, and the transition to a new set of party executives.
Speaking at a media briefing ahead of the event on Thursday, the Minister described the convention as both a critical decision-making platform and a moment for reflection, consolidation, and strategic direction-setting for the party.
Theme Underscores Unity and Direction
The convention will be held under the theme:
“Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Alhaji Idris explained that the theme reflects the APC’s identity, evolution, and future aspirations, while aligning party processes with national governance priorities.
“This theme goes beyond a slogan. It clearly defines who we are, our journey so far, and our collective direction as a party committed to democratic values and national development,” he said.
Strong Democratic Foundation Highlighted
The Minister reiterated that the APC was built on the foundation of unity among progressive forces, national cohesion, and inclusive governance. He noted that the party has sustained stability and growth through various electoral cycles and leadership transitions.
According to him, the APC has consistently demonstrated the ability to manage change through structured and transparent processes, while strengthening internal governance, accountability, and stakeholder participation.
Convention to Reinforce Government Agenda
Alhaji Idris stated that the convention will also serve as an opportunity to showcase achievements under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and reinforce the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He added that the agenda remains central to national development efforts and will be further embedded within the party’s leadership and institutional framework.
Comprehensive Preparations Completed
Assuring Nigerians of a hitch-free exercise, the Minister disclosed that all logistical and operational arrangements have been finalized.
“All committees have successfully concluded their assignments, and systems are in place to ensure coordination, efficiency, and order. The convention will proceed without avoidable disruptions,” he said.
He emphasized that the event reflects the APC’s commitment to democratic practice, organizational discipline, and collective decision-making.
Call for Unity and Confidence
Reaffirming the party’s unity, Alhaji Idris noted that diversity within the APC remains a source of strength, anchored on a shared commitment to progress and national development.
He assured Nigerians and the international community that the convention will meet the standards expected of a mature and responsible political party.
Tribute to President Tinubu
The Minister also paid tribute to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his role in Nigeria’s democratic journey and the growth of the APC, commending his leadership and vision in steering the country and strengthening the party.
Conclusion
Alhaji Idris concluded that the APC is fully prepared to deliver a successful and historic national convention that reflects its values, discipline, and readiness to continue leading Nigeria.
