The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Kwara State Command has detained a 19-year-old suspect, Abu Umar, accused of masterminding the abduction of a mother and her two children in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
The state commandant, Umar Mohammed, confirmed the arrest during a press briefing on Monday in Ilorin, the state capital.
According to Mohammed, the suspect was allegedly involved in the November 7 kidnapping of Isiaka Halimah and her two sons, Kabir and Hassan, at Gidanrogo Area of Ajase-Ipo.
“The suspect orchestrated the abduction of a mother and her two children in a deliberate and coordinated effort,” Mohammed stated.
He noted that the arrest was the result of thorough intelligence work by the command.
Mohammed explained that the suspect had previously worked for the abducted victims’ family and was apprehended after the kidnappers used his phone number to contact them.
“While Halimah has been released, the two children remain in captivity,” he stated.
The Commandant reaffirmed the NSCDC’s dedication to tackling criminal activities and ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state.
“We are collaborating with other security agencies to secure the release of the remaining children,” he added.
