Clerk of National Assembly Distances Office from ALDRAP, Disowns Planned Award Ceremony

The Office of the Clerk of the National Assembly has firmly disassociated itself from a group known as the Association of Legislative Drafting and Advocacy Practitioners (ALDRAP), warning the public against any claimed links to the National Assembly.

The clarification was contained in a statement signed by Shehu Umar Tama, Deputy Director, Information and Special Adviser on Media to the Clerk of the National Assembly, and dated December 17, 2025.

Acvording to the statement issued, the Clerk’s office said it has no affiliation whatsoever with ALDRAP, which was reportedly planning to float an association or registry for legislative drafters and to host an award ceremony, including a so-called “Blue Silk Award” — at the National Assembly Complex on Monday, December 15, 2025.

The statement made it clear that the proposed award ceremony was not approved and was expressly disallowed.

According to the Clerk’s office, at no time did the Clerk of the National Assembly consent to membership of ALDRAP, accept or show interest in any award, or grant permission for the group to host any event within the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

It further warned that any use of the name of the Clerk or the Office of the Clerk of the National Assembly in connection with ALDRAP or its activities is unauthorised and should be disregarded by the public.

“All concerned are advised to take note accordingly,” the statement added.
