Abbas Moves to Boost Education, Healthcare, Security with New Projects in Zaria
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has intensified efforts to improve infrastructure and public services in Zaria Federal Constituency with the commencement of new education, healthcare and security projects in Kaduna State.
The projects, spread across Sabon Gari Local Government Area, were flagged off on Saturday as part of the Speaker’s ongoing constituency development programme.
Among the projects are a new secondary school at Saidu Primary School, Samaru, featuring 10 classrooms, offices and toilet facilities, and a National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) study centre to expand access to higher education.
Other interventions include the construction of a diagnostic centre at Isa Chikaji Primary Healthcare Centre and a 20-bed primary healthcare facility at Zangon Dan Borno, Dogarawa.
The Speaker also facilitated the establishment of a police station under the Zaria Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force as part of efforts to strengthen security in the area.
Addressing residents and other stakeholders at the events, Abbas said the projects were informed by the need to provide essential facilities that directly respond to the everyday needs of the people.
He noted that children deserve conducive classrooms, patients should have access to timely medical diagnosis, while young people should be provided with opportunities to acquire education and pursue meaningful careers.
He described the projects as practical expressions of government responsibility, particularly in improving education, healthcare delivery and public safety.
Abbas, however, warned that the commencement of projects must translate into their successful completion, assuring constituents that he would monitor the process to ensure the facilities were delivered properly and safely.
He also highlighted plans for a youth development centre, explaining that the initiative would focus on equipping young people with practical skills that could translate into employment and business opportunities.
On ongoing projects, the Speaker listed the 320-bed male and female hostel at NILEST, renovation of Aminu Primary School, runway extension at NCAT, and faculty buildings at the main campus and Faculty of Social Sciences of Ahmadu Bello University.
He assured residents that the projects would be completed, adding that further development interventions had been captured in the 2026 Budget.
These include a new terminal and runway for commercial flights at NCAT, a library, rural market, mega town hall, upgraded polo field, reconstructed township stadium and road projects.
The Speaker maintained that his constituency projects were designed to complement President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by bringing development closer to the people through improved infrastructure, accessible education, dependable healthcare and economic opportunities.
