The Federal Government of Nigeria, has approved new retirement age for all the teachers in the nation from 60 years to 65 years.
On Wednesday, during federal Executive council meeting in Abuja, President Muhammadu Buhari, approved the bill; Harmonized Retirement Age for all the Nigerian Teachers,
President Buhari further directed the bill to be sent to the National Assembly for its consideration and approval.
Adamu Adamu, the Honourable Minister of Education, who revealed this to State House correspondents in Abuja after the end of federal Executive council meeting, he also stated that, the bill also seeks to give legal backing to new measures by the president Buhari’s administration to enhance the teaching profession in the Nation.
According to Honourable Minister of Education, Mr Adamu, said the Bill include the introduction of bursary award, special rural posting allowances and other measures to attract the best brains to the profession.
When Nigerian Lawmakers approved, the years of service will move from 35 to 40, while the retirement age of teachers will be also move from 60 years to 65 respectively.
