A Chinese man, whose name is yet to be ascertained, has allegedly stabbed his 23-year-old lover, Ummakulsum Sani Buhari, to death at Janbulo Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident reportedly happened around 10 pm on Friday after the suspect visited the deceased at her parent’s house located adjacent National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) in the area.
While reasons about what transpired between the two that led to the unfortunate event remain sketchy, the young lady was confirmed dead by a doctor after she was rushed to a hospital after the incident.
Abubakar Mustapha, a neighbour of the deceased told Daily Trust that the late Ummakulsum was a divorcee and the suspect was her boyfriend even before her failed marriage.
“The incident happened around 10:00 pm on Friday. The suspected murderer was her boyfriend since before she got married. Her husband divorced her but she went on with the relationship she had with the suspect. He often came to her house. After the incident, she was taken to UMC Zhair hospital not more than a kilometre away from her house and she died.
“Khaleed, the brother of the deceased stopped a mob from attacking the suspect when the Chinese man came back for his car, as Khaleed knew the situation could escalate into a different issue. However, the suspect was detained and later handed over to the police,” Mustapha said.
Another neighbour, Muhammad Sani told one of our reporters that the suspect once attempted suicide when the deceased decided to get married but with the intervention of the police, the matter was settled.
“When she was about to get married, he once attempted suicide because of his love for her until the police intervened and everything was settled,” he said.
Sani added that the suspect has been taken to the custody of the divisional police station at Dorayi quarters.
The deceased, Ummakulsum, popularly known as ‘Ummita’ attended the Kano School of Nursing and Midwifery.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Kano, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed the incident and promised to provide more information later.
