Dagugu Joins APC Zonal Race, Alleges Irregularities in Form Issuance Despite ₦5.1m Payment
Ambassador Fubara Dagugu, a leading aspirant for the position of National Vice Chairman (South-South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has formally declared his intention to contest in the forthcoming national convention, while raising concerns over alleged procedural irregularities in the nomination process.
Speaking to journalists at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, Dagugu reflected on his political journey within the APC, noting that many of those present had been part of his 12-year involvement in the party. He recounted previous attempts to serve at both national and youth leadership levels, emphasizing that despite setbacks, he has remained steadfast and committed to the party’s growth.
“I have contested at different levels, faced defeats, but always returned to support the party and its leadership. I remain committed to the ideals and progress of the APC,” he said.
Dagugu highlighted his role in the formative stages of the party, including his participation as one of the youngest members of a key committee that contributed to the merger of legacy parties in 2012. He also referenced his advocacy for balanced zoning arrangements within the party’s leadership structure.
According to him, extensive consultations with party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters across the country informed his decision to contest for the office of National Vice Chairman (South-South).
“I have consulted widely across legacy blocs and supporters of the Renewed Hope Agenda. After due consideration, I have resolved to run for the position of National Vice Chairman, South-South,” he stated.
The aspirant expressed confidence in his ability to strengthen party unity and advance its ideology, while pledging to play a strategic role in securing victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Dagugu also disclosed that he had fulfilled all financial requirements for the nomination process, including the payment of ₦5.1 million covering nomination and related fees. However, he raised concerns over difficulties encountered in obtaining the nomination form despite meeting all stipulated conditions.
“I complied fully with the financial and procedural requirements, including verification at the accounts department. However, upon proceeding to the organizing department, I was informed that the nomination forms were unavailable, despite the timeline indicating that form sales were still ongoing,” he explained.
He called for transparency and strict adherence to due process in the conduct of the convention, stressing the importance of fairness for all aspirants.
Reaffirming his loyalty to the APC, Dagugu urged party members to remain united and focused on consolidating the party’s gains and ensuring electoral success in 2027.
“The journey continues. I believe this is God’s time, and I am prepared to serve the party with dedication, integrity, and inclusiveness,” he concluded.
