Economic Hardship Necessary, Suswam Tells Nigerians as He Backs Tinubu

Former Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam has defended President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, urging Nigerians to endure the current hardship and support the president for a second term in 2027.

Suswam spoke on Friday at the PBAT Door-to-Door rally in Makurdi, Benue State, where he called on young people to support Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
He maintained that although Nigerians were experiencing economic difficulties, the president needed another four-year term to consolidate his policies and establish a foundation for future economic progress.
According to Suswam, the hardship being experienced by Nigerians should not prevent them from supporting the administration’s reform agenda.
“There is suffering now, but there is no way you can build a future without experiencing some pains. We must experience those pains for us to be better tomorrow,” he said.
The former governor urged young Nigerians to vote massively for Tinubu, warning them against what he described as propaganda against the president’s policies.
He further argued that Nigeria might have avoided some of its current economic challenges if the reforms being implemented by Tinubu had been introduced earlier.
“If we have taken those same steps, we won’t have been where we are today. Tinubu has taken it, please let’s allow him in the next four years, he will consolidate and hand over to somebody who shall build on it,” Suswam added.
He also praised Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, for organising the door-to-door mobilisation campaign in support of the president.
Suswam challenged participants to take the campaign to their respective communities, stressing that political mobilisation should extend beyond rallies to direct engagement with voters.
He encouraged them to speak with their parents, siblings and other residents about Tinubu’s policies and why they believe the president deserves another term.
The former governor also disclosed that his decision to join the APC was influenced by his assessment of the president’s ongoing reforms.
Suswam said he wanted to be counted among those who supported Tinubu in laying what he described as a solid foundation for younger generations.
“I was one of those who wasn’t in APC but when I saw what was going on, I decided that let me not be behind, when history is written, let it be that Suswam was one of those who supported Tinubu to build a solid foundation for the younger generation of this country,” he said.
He reiterated his commitment to Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, insisting that the administration’s policies were intended to benefit young Nigerians in the long term.
“We support President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, we support his courage, what he is doing for the younger generation of this country, what is happening now is for you,” Suswam said.
He acknowledged that Nigerians were facing hardship but maintained that the country would be better off if the reforms succeeded.
His comments come as the Tinubu administration continues to face public scrutiny over its economic policies and their effects on household finances, food affordability and the cost of living.
