#EdoDecides2024: INEC Suspends Collation Of Results In Akpata’s Council Area, Others
Following reported violence in Igbeben, Ikpoba Okha, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stopped the collation of the results for Saturday’s governorship election in the Oredo Local Government Area (LGA) of Edo State.
The governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Olumide Akpata is from Oredo LGA which is one of the largest voting councils in the state.
The largest voting council area is Ikpoba Okha local government area.
According to TVC News, the collation was suspended after three of the wards’ results had been presented by collation officer, citing fear of violence.
The collation officer announced that the collation for Oredo LGA which has 12 wards had been moved to the state collation centre.
“The collation officer just had to put a stop to the announcement when words filtered in from a place called Igbeben in Ikpoba Okha that violence has erupted there.
“Oredo Local Government and Ikpoba Okha, both of them are the largest voting local governments in Edo State,” he added.
Meanwhile, NNH observed that as at 8:41am, the result of only one polling unit was left to be uploaded on INEC IREV portal. Out of 619 polling units, 618 had been uploaded.
In Ikpoba Okha LGA, out of 641 polling units, 638 polling units’ results had been uploaded on the INEC IREV portal.
Naija News House observed that INEC uploaded Form EC40G (PU) as results for some polling units instead of result sheets.
This applies to Owan East, Oredo, Akoko Edo and Etsako West.
