Tinubu Approves Extension for Immigration, Correctional Service Bosses

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended the tenures of two heads of Nigeria’s security services, approving an additional 18 months in office for the heads of the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigerian Correctional Service.
The affected officials are Kemi Nanna Nandap, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, and Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, disclosed the decision in a statement issued on Monday.
Under the new arrangement, Nandap will remain in office until June 30, 2028, while Nwakuche’s tenure has been extended until May 26, 2028.
Onanuga stated that the President approved the extensions following a recommendation from the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
He said the decision was aimed at addressing succession gaps in the two agencies while providing their respective boards with adequate time to select replacements.
Tinubu also praised the two officials for the reforms introduced during their time in office and charged them to build on the progress made.
Nandap’s appointment was nominated by the President on February 21, 2024, and confirmed by the Senate on March 1, 2024.
Nwakuche, on the other hand, was nominated in December 2024 and confirmed by the Senate in March 2025.
