Don’t Think Of Returning Fuel Subsidy – Sen. Nwaebonyi Tells Nigerians
….Commends Super Eagles for wonderful outing and urges the team to bring the AFCON Cup home
…Says Senate will recommend the removal of Service Chiefs if they cannot contend the rising cases of kidnapping in Nigeria
ABUJA – Federal lawmaker representing Ebonyi South East Senatorial District, Senator Onyeka Peter Nwaebonyi has urged Nigerians not to contemplate or demand the return of fuel subsidy regime because it was a conduit pipe for the cabal to siphon the resources of this country to the detriment of the poor masses.
Senator Nwaebonyi stated this while fielding questions from journalists on the protest in Niger state over the hardship in the country and his party’s position that the protest is being instigated by the opposition party instead of fuel subsidy removal which distorted everything.
According to him, of the truth and as a leader, I must admit that things are not very easy but not only in Nigeria, it is all over the world. The economy globally is bad and we should not think of returning subsidy because I must tell you, that has been a conduit pipe for the cabals to siphon the resources of this country to the detriment of the poor masses. He added that the revenue of the country has increased because of subsidy removal and in no time, Nigerians will start seeing the effect of those economic policies and other social provisions the All Progressives Congress have made to make life better for the citizenry as contained in the last budget of 2024.
The Ebonyi-born politician also commended our national team, the Super Eagles for their wonderful outing so far at the onging African Cup of Nations (AFCON). In his words, I want to commend the Super Eagles for their wonderful outing, it has been victory all through in the matches they have played and I believe they maintain the tempo, I believe strictly that the AFCON Cup 2023 is for Nigeria and Nigeria alone.
On the rising cases of kidnapping in Abuja in particular and Nigeria in general, Senator Nwaebonyi said that during the screening of the Service Chiefs, they promised Ngerians that insecurity will be a thing of the past upon assumption of office but it appears the insecurity is now on the increase and that is why the senate invited the Service Chiefs and parent ministries to explain why the case of insecurity is not abating instead it is increasing on daily basis. Like i said earlier, Nigerians are very anxious to nip this insecurity from the bud and we cannot continue to lament. We need pepple that will give us solution to the problem, not people that will be coming up with rhetorics, throwing blame games from one security agency to the other. We are out to represent Nigerians in this respect to the extent that if a Service Chief is not performing and we find out that the IGP is not performing, we will be left with no option than make necessary recommendation to the president for hid removal and I believe that Mr. President is also for Nigerians and he will do the needful towards giving Nigerians what we promised them in our party manifesto which security of life and property is one of the prominent part of our manoifesto.
In respect of the fight against corruption, Senator Nwaebonyi stressed that the APC, led by President Tinubu is getting it right. He said that President Tinubu is a man that does not tolerate corruption and that is why when the issue of humanitarian saga came up, he immediately suspended the minister and have set up a committee to actually investigate that.
When asked what his constituency should expect as part of his legislative agenda, Senator Nwaebonyi said that in the 2024 budget that was just passed, he was able to make some inputs in terms of including some internal roads for rehabilitation in his senatorial zone and also had come up with a Bill establishing Medical School in Ebonyi State to be called David Umahi University of Medical Scienced. That Bill he said, has psssed first reading and by next week, he will be taking it up for second reading. He hinted that that is some of the few, among others that he has mapped out to follow up this year.
