IGBOkODA AIRCRAFT CRASH: NAF Records Major Progress In Dewatering Efforts On Day 14
The Nigerian Air Force has recorded significant progress in its recovery operation at the site of the crashed NAF 931 ATR 42-500 aircraft in Igbokoda, Ondo State, following a substantial reduction in water levels.
The recovery exercise entered its 14th day on 19 October 2026, with continuous pumping operations helping to lower the water level and bring the team closer to removing most of the remaining water at the site.
The NAF said the operation was continuing under challenging conditions, requiring sustained engineering efforts to ensure the safe and effective recovery of the aircraft.
As part of measures to maintain stability at the site, recovery personnel are reinforcing the embankment with sandbags to prevent collapse while dewatering activities continue.

The Service acknowledged the commitment of personnel and partner agencies working to advance the mission, with particular recognition given to Hitech Construction Company for its significant contribution to the ongoing efforts.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, commended the recovery team for demonstrating resilience, professionalism and dedication throughout the operation.
Aneke reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to completing the recovery exercise safely and systematically, while continuing to support the investigation into the aircraft accident.
The NAF also extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, recognising the emotional pain and anguish caused by the incident.
It assured the families and other stakeholders that recovery efforts would be sustained and that verified information would be made available as developments emerge.
The Service further expressed appreciation to the people of Igbokoda for their patience and cooperation, as well as to all stakeholders supporting the recovery operation.
