“Only a Madman Will Vote for Tinubu in 2027” — Amaechi

Rotimi Amaechi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, has urged Nigerians to reject President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, describing his economic policies as “reckless.”
Amaechi made the statement on Thursday at an ADC town hall meeting in Edo State, where he criticised the hardship caused by the administration’s economic policies.
According to him, only a “madman” would vote for Tinubu after experiencing the current economic situation in the country.
“I read on social media that it is in 2027 that we will know how many madmen we have in Nigeria. It is only a madman that can vote for Tinubu,” Amaechi said.
“If you are not mad, then Tinubu should not win here.”
The former Minister of Transportation also rejected Tinubu’s description of the removal of the petrol subsidy as an act of courage.
“There is a difference between courage and recklessness. Tinubu wasn’t courageous; he was reckless,” he said.
Amaechi said the rising cost of living had made it increasingly difficult for Nigerians to afford basic necessities, accusing the administration of implementing policies that had worsened economic hardship.
He also criticised Nigeria’s energy sector, arguing that the country had failed to adequately utilise its abundant crude oil and natural gas resources to drive industrialisation and economic growth.
Amaechi said the country needs policies that encourage domestic production rather than measures that place additional pressure on consumers and businesses.
He added that Atiku Abubakar, the ADC presidential candidate, would introduce a “production subsidy” to boost local production and reduce economic pressure on Nigerians if elected president.
