NLC Gives Buhari, CBN 7 Days To End Naira Scarcity Or Face Strike Action

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has given the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government and the Central Bank of Nigeria seven days ultimatum to end Naira scarcity in the country.

The NLC threatened that the workers in the public service may embark on a strike to press home their grievances if the government fails to resolve the socio-economic hardship which the monetary policy had created.

This was stated by the NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, who issued the ultimatum on Monday in Abuja, at the opening session of the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the apex labour union.

Ajaero, who expressed concerns about the hardships Nigerians were experiencing as a result of the Buhari administration’s cash swap policy, warned that after the seven-day period expired, workers would be directed to stay away from work if nothing was done to improve the situation.

The NLC President also criticised the country’s current fuel shortage, lamenting that workers and Nigerians were being pushed to the brink of starvation.

He said, “On this issue of fuel scarcity and cash crunch, Congress wish to inform the Federal Government that we will no longer keep quiet.

“NLC is giving the CBN and the FG seven working days, if they fail to do the needful at the expiration of the seven days, all workers in Nigeria should stay at home,” Ajaero stated before the meeting broke into a closed-door session.
