BREAKING: Gunmen Abduct Top National Assembly Member, Kill Police Escort
Dr Joseph Haruna Kigbu, a former member of the House of Representatives, has been reportedly abducted by suspected bandits while travelling to Jos, Plateau State.
It was learnt that Joseph was abducted on Monday around 6pm, between Nunku in Akwanga Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, and Gwantu in the Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The assailants who fired sporadically, causing panic among motorists in the area were said to have fatally shot the police escort assigned to Dr. Kigbu, who attempted to resist the abduction in a gun battle.
Local villagers confirmed the incident, adding that the location had been a hotspot for criminal activities over the years.
The Nasarawa State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, was not reachable for comments.
Kigbu who represented Lafia/Obi federal constituency, Nasarawa State at the house of representatives from 2011 to 2015 on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) before dumping the party for PDP is a Fellow of the West African College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Dr Kigbu practised as a medical doctor for 34 years and as Specialist Obstetrician and Gynecologist for over 20 years both in Nigeria and the West African Sub-region.
