Bobrisky: NASS Probe Bribery Allegations Against EFCC, Correctional Service
The House of Representatives on Thursday mandated its Committee on Anti-Corruption and Correctional Service to probe the allegations of bribery levied against officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service.
The resolution of the House followed the adoption of a motion of urgent national importance by Rep Patrick Umoh on the need to probe the bribery allegations against the two agencies.
The allegations, made by Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, claimed that the EFCC dropped money laundering charges against cross dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, after receiving ₦15 million.
Additionally, Otse alleged that Bobrisky, convicted of abusing and defacing the Naira, did not serve his time at the Nigerian Correctional Service but was instead lodged in an apartment outside the service’s confines.
The lawmaker in his motion said these allegations had raised concerns about the integrity of Nigeria’s law enforcement agencies and the country’s reputation as a corrupt nation.
The House unanimously adopted the motion and referred it to the committees on Anti-Corruption and Correctional Service for further legislative action. The committees are to report back within three weeks.
