FG Gives Contractor One-month Ultimatum Over Abandoned NHIA Building In Abeokuta
The Federal Government has given the contractor handling the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) office project in Abeokuta, Ogun State, a one-month ultimatum to complete and make the facility functional.
The directive followed a recent video circulating on social media highlighting the poor state of the abandoned building.
In response, the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Kunle Salako, on Thursday, February 12, 2026, conducted an unscheduled on-the-spot assessment visit to the facility in Abeokuta.
During the inspection, Dr. Salako evaluated the condition of the building and expressed concern over its prolonged abandonment, noting the negative impact on effective health insurance service delivery in Ogun State.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to revitalising critical health infrastructure as part of broader reforms in the health sector aimed at expanding access to affordable healthcare for Nigerians.
It was established during the visit that the contractor had not formally handed over the facility to NHIA management. Consequently, the Minister directed the contractor to fix all outstanding issues and ensure the building is fully functional within one month from February 12, 2026, to enable NHIA staff move in.
Dr. Salako stressed that no public health asset should be left to deteriorate, especially at a time when the government is intensifying efforts to strengthen the health system and improve service delivery nationwide.
He assured stakeholders that necessary measures would be taken to ensure the facility is put to productive use within the stipulated timeline, in the overall interest of the people of Ogun State.
