Heavy Fight Rocks Event Center As Police, NSCDC Officials Clash
Officials of the Nigerian Police and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) clashed on Wednesday over the presence of an armed NSCDC official at an event attended by Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun, wife of Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police.
Mrs. Egbetokun was on a working visit to the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T), Moor Plantation, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The incident began as NSCDC officials, some Police officers, and IAR&T staff awaited Mrs. Egbetokun’s arrival. A senior Police officer approached the NSCDC officials attached to IAR&T and demanded that one of them leave the premises due to carrying a gun.
He argued that the NSCDC officer was not authorized to carry a firearm at the venue, especially given the presence of the Inspector-General’s wife and other high-ranking Police officers.
This led to a heated exchange between the senior NSCDC official on the scene and her Police counterpart, drawing the attention of event attendees and passersby.
The tension was eventually resolved after the senior Police officer made a phone call to another top officer, briefing him on the situation.
