Presidency Speaks On Cardoso’s Resignation
The Presidency has denied reports claiming that President Bola Tinubu asked Yemi Cardoso, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), to resign from his position.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, refuted these rumors on Tuesday via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, calling the reports a “bundle of lies.”
Onanuga clarified, “It’s all lies. President Tinubu has not asked Yemi Cardoso to resign,” dismissing the circulating claims.
The false report alleged that President Tinubu issued the directive to Cardoso before departing for China, despite intervention from prominent Yoruba leaders.
Yemi Cardoso, who assumed office on September 22, 2023, has faced criticism for his handling of Nigeria’s economic challenges and the instability of the Naira.
A seasoned economist and development policy expert, Cardoso was nominated by President Tinubu on September 15, 2023, and his appointment was swiftly approved by the National Assembly, succeeding acting CBN Governor Folashodun Shonubi.
