Troops Kill Three Kidnappers, Rescue Victim in Edo Forest
Troops of the Nigerian Army, working alongside other security agencies, have rescued a kidnapping victim, identified as Prince Micheal Akao, and neutralised three suspected kidnappers during an intelligence-led operation in Sasaro Forest, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
The operation was conducted on Sunday, October 11, 2026, following a tip-off that led troops of the 195 Battalion (Rear) and other security operatives to carry out a search operation within the forest.
During the operation, the troops successfully rescued the victim and neutralised three suspected kidnappers. They also recovered three locally fabricated guns, nine cartridges and other items.
The rescued victim was immediately evacuated to a hospital for medical attention and is responding to treatment.
The recovered items have been handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS), while the bodies of the neutralised suspects have been taken into the custody of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The Nigerian Army said it would continue to work with other security agencies to dismantle kidnapping networks, deny criminals safe havens and protect communities from criminal activities.
The operation also underscores ongoing efforts by security agencies to strengthen public safety, protect citizens and prevent criminal elements from using forested areas as hideouts for their activities.
