Security Operatives Raid IPOB Hideout, Capture Fighter, Recover Arms
Combined Troops of 63 Brigade Garrison under the auspices of 6 Division, Nigerian Army, and the Department of State Services (DSS), on Saturday, destroyed an enclave of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)/Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Asaba, Delta State, capturing one fighter and recovering a cache of arms and ammunitions.
The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.- Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, said the raid operation was in continuation of ongoing clearance operations on identified fortified enclave located in the middle of a forested high ground.
He said the troops in the firefight that ensued overpowered the IPOB fighters, compelling them to abandon their hideout in disarray.
He added that the troops captured one of the fleeing fighters and recovered five AK-47 rifles, three pump action semi automatic rifles, one G3 rifle and one single barrel gun.
Other items recovered included live cartridges, electric saw, machetes, an axe and IPOB flag.
The Army spokesman noted that the troops further destroyed the enclave and were exploiting the forest in pursuit of the fleeing fighters.
He added that the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, while commending the troops and other security agencies for their effort in the ongoing operations, also charged them to sustain the momentum to restore sanity in the region.
