Sports: 5 Football Players Who Died On The Pitch

5 football players who died on the pitch. Football connects the world in a special way. It brings us together as we cheer performances of our beloved clubs and when sharing our different opinions. However, there are times when it creates a sombre mood, especially when star players on the field of play lose their lives before our eyes.

Below is a list of 5 Football players who lost their lives during a match or shortly after the game ended.

    1) Tommy Blackstock

The late Manchester United defender Tommy Blackstone collapsed and died while playing against St Helens in 1907 after he cleared the the ball with his head.

    2) Abdul Rahman Atef

Rahman who played for Eqyptian club Al Qanayat reportedly died on 8th March this year after he swallowed his tongue while playing on the field.

    3) Antonio Puerto

Puerto who played for Sevilla as left Midfielder, and sometimes as left defender, collapsed during a match against Getafe in 2007 and consequently died 3 days after.

Foe was a Cameroonian player who played as a defender for the national team. He collapsed during the 2003 FIFA confederation cup when his team was playing against Colombia.

He died shortly afterward, while undergoing treatment in hospital, from Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy — a condition where the heart becomes thickened without obvious reason.
