ONE YEAR IN OFFICE: The Workings And Achievements Of Hon. Sunday Daku: A Man Who Acts More Than Rhetoric

In the world of politics, where promises often outweigh actions and rhetorics tends to overshadow results, there are few individuals who stand out as true champions of the people they represent. Hon. Sunday Daku, the representative of the Bassa State Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, is one of such rare gem – a silent achiever and unsung hero who has proven that actions speak louder than words.

Upon assumption of office, Hon. Sunday Daku wasted no time in rolling up his sleeves and got to work for the people of Bassa. His first order of business was to address some longstanding issues that had plagued his Constituency for years.

1. The lack of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members being posted to the Local Government due to the crisis in the area. Recognizing the importance of having young, skilled individuals contribute to the development of the area, Hon. Daku lobbied tirelessly for the reinstatement of NYSC posting of Youth Corps Members to Bassa, ensuring that pupils and students of the Constituency had access to the opportunities and services provided by these Corps Members.

2. In a giant step towards reconnecting his Constituency to the national grid, Hon. Sunday Daku’s achieved the restoration of electricity supply in Oguma and its environ with a commitment of ₦400,000 Naira. He spearheaded the effort to bring much-needed power back to the community, improving the quality of life for residents and businesses in the area. This project, not only had a direct impact on the daily lives of the people of Oguma, but demonstrated Hon. Daku’s ability to deliver tangible results that continue to make real difference.

3. In addition to his efforts to improve infrastructure and basic services in his Constituency, Hon. Sunday Daku also allocated ₦500,000 Naira towards community development initiatives led by the Akakana Development Association (ADA). This funding supported a community-assisted project that focused on addressing specific needs identified by the residents, which further showcased Hon. Daku’s commitment to empowering local/community associations and grassroots efforts that benefit communities as a whole and not just individuals.

4. Recognizing how pertinent it is for his constituents to have access to essential services, Hon. Sunday Daku also provided a brand new SUMEC generator and printer worth hundreds of thousands of Naira for the National Identification Number (NIN) Office in Oguma, the headquarters of Bassa Local Government. This investment not only enhanced the efficiency and effectiveness of the office but also highlighted Hon. Daku’s dedication to supporting key government services that are vital for the development and progress of Bassa Local Government. It is worthy of mention that, before the intervention of Hon. Sunday Daku by providing those equipment, indigenes of Bassa Local Government had to painstakingly travel to nearby Local Governments to enroll for their NIN and correction of other NIN related issues.

5. Despite being in the opposition, Hon. Sunday Daku has demonstrated the willingness to work across party lines as he prioritizes the needs of his constituents above political divides. An example of this commitment is his provision of employment for an indigene of Bassa Local Government, showcasing his belief in meritocracy and his desire to create opportunities for the people he serves, regardless of their religion, tribe or political affiliations.

6. Through his persistent advocacy and communication with the Ministry of Works and Housing, in his first year in office, Hon. Daku lobbied relevant authorities within the Ministry to ensure the completion of the Oguma-Sheria Bridge which is a vital socio-economic infrastructural project to the people of his Constituency. Also, he has countlessly called on the State Government to complete the Odenyi-Oguma Road project, appealing to the State Governor, H.E, Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo, to consider the use of asphalt lane instead of the prior surface dressing that was awarded. Be that as it may, his tireless efforts have not gone unnoticed, as the Ministry of Works and Housing has commended his dedication to seeing this projects get to fruition. Hon. Daku’s passion for improving the lives of his constituents and enhancing connectivity in the region is truly commendable.

Furthermore, in his one year in office, Hon. Daku’s investment in education through the provision of scholarship to students of higher institutions within and outside Kogi State who are indigenes of Bassa Local Government is a testament to his belief in the power of education to transform lives and uplift communities and the society at large. By supporting the aspirations of young people and ensuring they have the resources to pursue higher education, Hon. Daku is not only investing in the future of Bassa but also nurturing the potentials of the next generation of leaders and change-agents.

To put the records straight, Hon. Sunday Daku was not paid any Constituency allowance during his first year in office. However, despite non payment of Constituency allowance, Hon. Sunday Daku has proven beyond reasonable doubt of being a dedicated public servant. Achieving significant progress and results in his Constituency with the meagre resources accrued to him shows he is a man that acts more than rhetorics. This sets a remarkable example of true representation which other political office holders must emulate.

In conclusion, Hon. Sunday Daku’s first year in office as the representative of the Bassa State Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly has been marked by tangible achievements, unwavering dedication, peace and a genuine commitment to the well-being of the people he serves. Through his actions, he has proven himself to be a silent achiever and an unsung hero of the Bassa people – a man who acts more than he speaks and whose impact resonates far beyond the confines of political rhetorics. As he continues to work tirelessly for the progress and development of his Constituency, Hon. Daku’s legacy of service and excellence will undoubtedly endure, leaving a lasting imprint in the hearts and minds of the Bassa people for years to come.
