Operation FANSAN YAMMA: Troops Foil Terrorist Attacks in Zamfara, Sokoto, Rescue Two Herders
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have recorded fresh operational successes in Zamfara and Sokoto states, foiling a terrorist ambush, rescuing two abducted herders and recovering 520 livestock.
The operations, conducted by troops of Sector 2 on October 28, 2026, form part of ongoing military efforts to eliminate terrorist threats and safeguard lives and property across Nigeria’s North-West region.

In Zamfara State, the troops came under attack while conducting a fighting patrol along the Anka–Guruzu Road to clear the route of terrorist elements.
According to the military, the terrorists launched a coordinated ambush from both sides of the road but were overwhelmed by the troops’ response.
The soldiers engaged the attackers with superior firepower, inflicting heavy casualties before the terrorists fled the area.
The troops subsequently secured the affected route and restored movement for commuters.
Although one soldier sustained a gunshot injury during the exchange of fire, he was immediately evacuated for treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
Meanwhile, in Sokoto State, the troops thwarted a terrorist operation targeting herders and livestock in Takasaba Village, Sabon Birni Local Government Area.
Acting on credible intelligence, the soldiers swiftly moved to the area and engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon their operation and flee.
The troops recovered 520 livestock believed to have been rustled and rescued two abducted herders during the operation.
The victims, Malam Sulaiman, 50, and Nasiru Sulaiman, 14, were later handed over to the Sabon Birni Local Government authorities.
The military described the successful operations as evidence of the troops’ operational effectiveness and determination to deny terrorists the freedom to operate across the North-West.
It added that the operations were part of sustained efforts to secure major routes, protect rural communities and prevent criminal groups from carrying out attacks and livestock rustling.
The Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General WB Idris, praised the troops for their courage, professionalism and fighting spirit.
He charged them to maintain pressure on terrorist groups and sustain ongoing offensive operations.
Idris also reassured residents of the Joint Operations Area of the military’s commitment to restoring lasting peace and security, urging members of the public to provide security agencies with timely and credible intelligence to strengthen ongoing efforts.
