Theatre Commander Meets Mayanchi Leaders, Reaffirms Commitment to Tackling Insecurity
GUSAU, Zamfara State – The Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), Major General WB Idris, has reaffirmed the military’s commitment to restoring peace and security in Mayanchi and other vulnerable communities through stronger collaboration with residents.
The assurance came during a meeting with executives of the Mayanchi Development Association, led by its Chairman, Alhaji Lawali Barga, at the Theatre Headquarters in Gusau on Friday, July 24, 2026.
The engagement formed part of the military’s ongoing efforts to strengthen civil-military relations and provided an opportunity for the community leaders to present security concerns affecting Mayanchi and neighboring communities.
Speaking during the meeting, Alhaji Barga commended troops for their sacrifices in protecting the area but expressed concern over persistent terrorist attacks that have claimed lives, destroyed property, and displaced residents.
He appealed for enhanced military support, including faster responses to distress calls, reinforcement of troops and equipment, regular troop rotation, and approval for community-supported security infrastructure. He also pledged the community’s continued support by providing credible intelligence to aid military operations.
In his response, Major General Idris thanked the delegation for engaging with the military and emphasized that defeating insecurity requires a collective effort involving both security agencies and local communities.
He assured the delegation that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains fully committed to restoring normalcy in Mayanchi and other affected areas, noting that several ongoing military operations may not be immediately visible to the public but would deliver positive results.
The Theatre Commander urged residents to remain patient and continue supporting security forces by providing timely and credible intelligence to help neutralize terrorist activities.
He stressed that mutual trust, sustained cooperation, and effective intelligence sharing remain critical to achieving lasting peace across the Joint Operations Area.
The meeting concluded with a group photograph and a visit by the delegation to the Theatre’s Wall of Heroes, a monument dedicated to Operation FANSAN YAMMA personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty since the operation began in 2024.
