Plateau Must Not Bleed Again — APC Chairman Yilwatda Backs Tinubu’s Visit, Calls For Tough Action
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visit to Plateau State following the recent killings in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, describing it as a strong show of empathy and national solidarity.
President Tinubu visited the state to commiserate with the government and people of Plateau over what has been widely condemned as a senseless and brutal attack on innocent residents.
The President was received by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Professor Yilwatda, former governors, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other key stakeholders across the state.
Speaking during the visit, Yilwatda condemned the attack in strong terms, describing it as “inhuman, cowardly, and reprehensible,” and warned that the continued loss of innocent lives in Plateau must no longer be treated with routine outrage.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, the APC Chairman stressed the need for coordinated and result-driven efforts to end the cycle of violence in the state.
He urged community leaders to be more vigilant and proactive in identifying and reporting suspicious activities, noting that those responsible for the attacks are often known within the communities.
“These perpetrators are not invisible. They are criminal elements exploiting local vulnerabilities. They must be exposed, apprehended, and brought to justice,” he said.
Yilwatda also called on security agencies to urgently overhaul their strategies, warning that outdated methods cannot effectively combat increasingly sophisticated criminal networks.
He advocated the deployment of modern, intelligence-driven security tools, including artificial intelligence-powered surveillance systems, drones, and real-time tracking technologies to prevent attacks before they occur.
“The protection of lives and property must now be driven by intelligence, technology, precision, and accountability,” he added.
The APC Chairman further highlighted the economic consequences of insecurity in Plateau State, noting that persistent violence continues to undermine the state’s tourism potential, agricultural productivity, and investment opportunities.
“No economy can thrive where fear dominates, and no society can prosper under constant threat,” he said, warning that continued instability could deprive residents, especially youths, of future opportunities.
He called for a unified approach involving traditional rulers, religious leaders, political actors, and community groups to restore lasting peace in the state.
During the visit, President Tinubu also met with families of victims, offering condolences and reassurance in what observers described as a deeply emotional moment.
The APC noted that the visit goes beyond symbolism, signaling the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing insecurity in Plateau State and ensuring justice for victims.
The party reaffirmed that those responsible for the killings must be brought to justice, stressing that the lives of Plateau citizens are “sacred and non-negotiable.”
“Plateau deserves peace, healing, and protection,” the statement concluded, adding that the cycle of violence must be brought to a definitive end.
