Fear Grips Travellers As Bandits Block Zamfara Highway, Abduct Passengers

Fresh fears have emerged among motorists and passengers in Zamfara State following reports that suspected bandits blocked the Magami–Dansadau–Gusau road, damaged vehicles and abducted several travellers.
The incident reportedly occurred along the road linking parts of Maru and Gusau Local Government Areas, where the attackers disrupted movement and vandalised vehicles belonging to commuters.
Sources said several passengers were feared abducted during the attack, while travellers’ belongings were reportedly destroyed by the armed men.
A source who raised the alarm in a message to SaharaReporters warned road users to be cautious, stating that many people were feared abducted and several vehicles damaged along the route.
Another report also indicated that the gunmen had again blocked the Magami–Dansadau road, destroying property and causing further anxiety among commuters.
The attack has renewed concerns about the safety of travellers on the highway, which has become increasingly dangerous due to repeated incidents involving armed groups.
The development comes days after reports emerged that bandits had threatened to burn about 250 vehicles travelling along the Dansadau–Gusau road.
The reported threat has sparked concerns among commercial transport operators, traders and residents who rely on the road to move people and goods between communities.
The latest incident is part of a series of security challenges affecting the area. In May 2026, suspected bandits reportedly ambushed travellers along the Magami–Dansadau road, leaving several people dead and others abducted.
The repeated attacks have continued to expose commuters to the risks of kidnapping, physical violence and the destruction of their property, despite growing calls for improved security along the corridor.
The Magami–Dansadau–Gusau road serves as an important link between rural communities and Gusau, the state capital. However, persistent attacks have raised questions about the safety of people using the route and the effectiveness of security measures in the area.
When contacted for an official reaction, the spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, had not responded to enquiries regarding the reported attack and abductions as of the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, travellers have been urged to remain vigilant and exercise caution when travelling along the affected highway.
