Zamfara LG Chairman Abducted, Troops Rescue Wife, Children and Mother
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have intensified efforts to rescue the abducted Executive Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Hon. Nura Umar Abdullahi, following a terrorist attack on his residence in the early hours of Saturday, July 25, 2026.
According to the Theatre Command, heavily armed terrorists stormed the Chairman’s residence, overpowering his police and vigilante security detail before abducting him and several members of his family.
Responding swiftly to the sound of gunfire, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA moved to the scene and engaged the fleeing terrorists in a fierce gun battle.
The military said the prompt intervention forced the terrorists to abandon five members of the Chairman’s family, who were successfully rescued. Those rescued include his wife, mother, two children and another relative.
Despite the troops’ efforts, the terrorists escaped into nearby bushes with the Chairman.
The attack claimed the lives of three members of the Chairman’s security team, including two police officers and one local vigilante, who fought bravely against the attackers. A civilian was also killed, while the Chairman’s elder brother, Alhaji Bello Umar, sustained injuries during the incident.
Following the attack, the Theatre Command activated a coordinated search-and-rescue operation involving troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilantes.
Security forces are currently conducting intelligence-led operations in suspected terrorist hideouts with the aim of rescuing the abducted Chairman safely.
The Theatre Command said it has deployed all available operational resources and is working closely with other security agencies to ensure a successful outcome.
It also appealed to residents of Zamfara State to remain calm, continue their lawful activities, and provide credible information through established security channels to support the ongoing operation.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring the public that security forces will continue the operation until the abducted Chairman is safely reunited with his family and those responsible are brought to justice.
