BREAKING: Many Feared Killed As Bandits Bomb Bridge
Suspected bandits have reportedly bombed a bridge along Luma Road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State after a vehicle triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) on Monday.
The road connects Luma, Babana, and Agwara communities and is a major route for residents and traders, particularly those travelling to the Babana border market, which holds every Monday.
It was gathered that the exact number of casualties could not be independently verified, although local sources indicated that there were fatalities.
A vehicle travelling between Nuku and Woro was said to have driven over the IED, causing a deadly explosion that reportedly killed its occupants, including the driver.
The incident comes after the earlier bombing of a bridge along the same route, which has further disrupted movement between the affected communities.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, said security operatives had commenced clearance operations in the area.
“On 23rd March 2026 at about 6.30 am, a report received revealed that on the same date at about 2 am, suspected terrorists within the park forest used an explosive device and bombed a bridge located along Luma road, Borgu LGA, connecting Luma-Babana-Agwara communities,” he said.
“It was discovered that the bridge was damaged by the hoodlums during security operations in the area. However, monitoring continues while clearance operation is intensified.”
He added that monitoring was ongoing while clearance operations had been intensified in the area.
