Three Years of Umo Eno: Senator Bassey Highlights Harmony, Development in Akwa Ibom
The Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Distinguished Senator Aniekan Bassey, has attributed the prevailing harmony between members of the National Assembly from Akwa Ibom State and Governor Umo Eno to mutual respect, shared vision, and purposeful leadership focused on the development of the state.
Speaking while assessing Governor Umo Eno’s three years in office, Senator Bassey said the cordial relationship between federal lawmakers and the state government has significantly contributed to political stability and accelerated development across Akwa Ibom State.
According to the lawmaker, Governor Umo Eno has consistently treated members of the National Assembly as partners in development rather than political rivals.
“The harmony we are witnessing today in Akwa Ibom State is largely driven by mutual respect, a shared vision, and the purposeful leadership of Pastor Umo Eno,” Senator Bassey stated.
“From the outset, the Governor made it clear that governance must rise above partisanship, personal interests, or parochial considerations. He has consistently engaged members of the National Assembly as critical stakeholders and development partners, all for the overall benefit of Akwa Ibom people.”
Senator Bassey explained that the partnership has strengthened collaboration between the state and federal governments, enabling Akwa Ibom to attract key federal projects and interventions.
He listed some of the gains to include the establishment of a Police College, agricultural interventions, and the Coastal Road project passing through Akwa Ibom State, with significant portions already completed.
“This partnership has enabled us to attract greater federal presence and interventions to Akwa Ibom State because we now speak with one voice,” he added.
The senator further noted that the improved relationship has enhanced policy coordination and projected Akwa Ibom as a politically stable and mature state capable of attracting investors and development partners.
Speaking on Governor Umo Eno’s leadership style, Senator Bassey described the governor as people-oriented, pragmatic, and compassionate.
He particularly applauded the administration’s Compassionate Homes initiative, through which over 300 homes have reportedly been built for widows and vulnerable persons across the state.
He also highlighted the commissioning of an Elderly Care Centre aimed at supporting senior citizens in need of proper care and attention.
According to Senator Bassey, Governor Umo Eno’s administration has recorded remarkable progress in critical sectors including education, healthcare, and infrastructure within the last three years.
“In education, model schools are being established across the local government areas. In healthcare, the administration has completed healthcare centres in all 31 local government areas of the state,” he said.
He further pointed to ongoing infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, and the Medical Corridor project, which he described as a transformative healthcare initiative designed to position Akwa Ibom among states with the best medical facilities in Nigeria.
Overall, Senator Bassey said the administration has promoted unity, stability, and tangible dividends of democracy for the people of Akwa Ibom State.
He expressed confidence that the foundation laid by Governor Umo Eno within the past three years would continue to yield greater developmental benefits for the state in the years ahead.
