BREAKING: Many Feared Killed As Explosion Rocks Rivers
Two persons have been confirmed dead in a road accident that happened Friday night around Elelenwo area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
This was as a gas cylinder exploded in at Oraszi area of the Port Harcourt on Saturday, burning 17 people.
A source, who was at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, RSUTH, Saturday said operatives of the Rivers State police command brought in three victims of the road accident and that two were already dead.
The source said one of the victims, who is a lady was still at the Intensive Care Unit, ICU, of the hospital battling for life.
A police officer, who is not authorized to talk, but was among the team that brought the victims of the accident to the hospital said the victims were driving in a Toyota Corolla Car when the accident happened.
The officer said the victims were coming back to Port Harcourt from the Eleme axis late Friday night when the driver of the car ram under a stationary truck.
The officer said the two people in front were found dead stocked under the truck, while the other female occupant at the back was still alive but in critical condition.
Also, a gas cylinder on Saturday exploded at the big tree area in Orazi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the State, living 17 people with serious burns.
It was gathered that a gas cylinder had blown up when the operator was refilling the can and that fire had gutted from the explosion.
It was further learned that fire from the explosion spread so far, burnt some shops and goods of some business owners displayed outside.
A source privy to the development said some of the people affected in the fire were passerby who were close to the shop when the gas exploded and went into flames.
The source noted that all the victims of the gas explosion have were immediately rushed to the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital Emergency unit for urgent attention.
