Jubilation As Prices Foodstuff Crash Massively

Prices Of Foodstuff

Price of vegetables, rice and beans have fallen in Taraba State as Eid-El-Fitr celebration approaches.

Findings revealed that unlike period of festivities in the past when prices foodstuff and vegetables usually go up, this time around is different.

At the Tashan Lau main vegetables market in Jalingo, the state capital, prices of tomatoes, onion, cabbage and carrot crashed to more than 50 percent compared to what was sold during this period last year.

Traders are making brisk business as customers, mostly women, troop to the market to make purchase of essential items for the festive period.

In a chat, Ibrahim Dangombe, a trader, said while the prices of tomatoes, onion, cabbage and carrot have crashed, pepper has gone up.

He said last year during this period, a bag of onion was sold at N90,-000 but it has now dropped to N20,000.

He said a basket of tomatoes was sold during this period last year at N50, 000 but now the price has come down to N20,000.

Dangombe stated that traders in the market were getting good patronage, adding that payment of salary of both state civil servants and local government council workers has further boosted trading at the market.

Meanwhile, price of local rice and beans have also come down in Jalingo.

Findings showed that a big measure of local rice is now sold between the rate of N22,00 and N2600 as against N3500 sold last year. Similarly, a big measure of white Bean is now sold at N2,200 as against N3,700 sold last year.
