VIDEO: National Assembly Lawmaker Escapes Death As Angry Constituents Chase Away
Angry constituents reportedly chased away Hon. Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, a member of the House of Representatives representing Tofa, Dawakin-Tofa and Rimin Gado Federal Constituency, during the All Progressives Congress (APC) local government congress in Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.
SaharaReporters gathered that the incident occurred on Monday, February 23, 2026, at the venue of the APC congress in Tofa LGA, where party members and supporters had assembled for the exercise.
In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, a large crowd is seen shouting in Hausa, “Ba ma yi kuma!” meaning, “We are not doing again!” as they advanced toward the federal lawmaker.
The visibly agitated mob chanted repeatedly while chasing him away from the gathering.
In the video, a man is heard shouting, “Ba za ku jira ba; ku ɗauki chairman ɗinku, kada ku bar shi a baya,” which translated to, “You will not wait, take your chairman, don’t leave him behind!”
The footage shows the lawmaker surrounded by a crowd, with some individuals protesting and gesturing angrily. Security personnel and a few supporters can be seen trying to shield him as tensions escalate.
Members of the crowd were also heard accusing the lawmaker of being disconnected from the people and intolerant.
“We are not doing again. He cannot relate with the people and he is intolerant,” some of the protesters shouted.
A source who spoke to SaharaReporters said Jobe has represented the Dawakin-Tofa, Rimingado and Tofa Federal Constituency since 2007 under different political platforms, including the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), the APC and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The source alleged that the lawmaker’s electoral strategy over the years has largely depended on aligning with serving governors in the state to secure victories.
“His strategy has been on relying on serving governors to win elections. He worked with Governor Ibrahim Shekarau in 2007 and 2011, Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso in 2015, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje in 2019, and Governor Abba Yusuf in 2023. He eventually joined him to defect from NNPP to APC with a view to getting automatic ticket for his sixth term ambition,” the source said.
As of the time of filing this report, Jobe had not publicly reacted to the incident, and the Kano State chapter of the APC had yet to issue an official statement on the disruption at the Tofa LGA congress.
